LCD monitors can only produce a high quality image at one resolution, known as the Native resolution. Make sure that this is suitable for your needs.

The native resolution for the various sizes of LCD monitors are as follows:

•17-and 19-inch monitors – native resolution 1280 × 1024

•20-and 21-inch monitors – native resolution 1600 × 1200

•23-inch monitors – native resolution 1920 × 1200

•27-inch monitors – native resolution 2560 × 1440

Note that the monitor resolutions shown on the left relate to standard models. Wide-screen monitors have different resolutions.

While on the subject of resolution, most monitors are now being sold as high definition (HD) models. These monitors have the wide-screen aspect ratio of 16:9 as opposed to the traditional 4:3 ratio.

Resolutions that are classed as HD are 1024 × 768, 1280 × 720, 1366 × 768 and 1920 × 1080.
